Yemeni Maraq Recipe

Maraq is mainly a Yemeni dish. It is a Yemeni soup that is made with meat, spice and vegetables. Maraq is also called Marak. It is one of the most popular dishes in Yemen. It is not only a popular dish in Yemen, but also it is a popular dish in Somalia, Oman and Indonesia. It is eaten with rice. Each Yemeni people cook this dish in a unique way according to their taste. So we provided an easy Yemeni Maraq recipe that will help to cook this dish easily.

  1. Lamb stew meat ( 1.5 kg )
  2. Onion ( 1 )
  3. Green onions ( 3 )
  4. Sunflower oil ( 2 tbsp )
  5. Cardamom ( 4 )
  6. Cumin seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  7. Coriander seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  8. Black peppercorns ( 1 tbsp )
  9. Turmeric powder ( 1 tsp )
  10. Hot water ( 16 cups )
  11. Wheat flour ( 3 tbsp )
  12. Lemon juice ( 3 tbsp )
  13. Salt ( 1 tbsp or as your taste )
  • Firstly, cut the onion and green onions into small pieces.
  • Then, grind the cardamom, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black peppercorns with a grinder.
  • Then, spice powder will be made.
  • Then, put the sunflower oil, onion, green onion, lamb meat in the nonstick pan and cook it for 4 minutes.
  • Then, add the spice powder, turmeric powder, wheat flour, salt and hot water to the pan and cook it until the lamb meat is cooked perfectly.
  • Lastly, serve this healthy and delicious Yemeni Maraq with lemon juice.

Somali maraq is more spicy than Yemeni maraq. So the recipe of this spicy maraq is-

  4. Garlic cloves ( 5 )
  5. Ginger (1/2 )
  6. Coriander seeds ( 1 tbsp )

  9. Black peppercorns ( 1 tbsp )
  10. Cinnamon sticks ( 7 )
  11. Cloves ( 5 )
  12. Nutmeg powder ( 1/2 tsp )
  13. Paprika powder ( 1 tbsp )
  14. Fenugreek seeds ( 1/2 tsp )
  15. Tomato puree ( 1 cup )
  16. Tomatoes ( 2 )
  17. Bell pepper ( 1 )

  • Firstly, cut the onion, tomatoes, bell pepper, potatoes, green chilies, coriander leaves into small pieces.
  • Then, mince the garlic cloves and ginger.
  • Then, grind the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cardamoms, black peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, cloves, fenugreek seeds with a grinder.
  • Then, spice powder will be made.
  • Then, put the olive oil, onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, lamb stew meat in the pan and cook it for 4 minutes.

Omani Maraq Recipe

Omani maraq recipe is a very easy and quick maraq recipe. So the recipe of this dish is-

  2. Sunflower oil ( 1/4 cup )
  3. Ghee ( 3 tbsp )
  4. Onion ( 1 )
  5. Garlic cloves ( 4 )
  6. Coriander seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  7. Cumin seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  8. Cardamoms ( 5 )
  9. Black peppercorns ( 1 tbsp )
  10. Cinnamon sticks ( 7 )

  12. Dried red chilies ( 4 )
  13. Turmeric powder ( 1 tsp )
  14. Tomato puree ( 1 cup )
  15. Carrot ( 1 )
  16. Zucchini ( 2 )
  17. Bell pepper ( 2 )
  18. Water ( 10 cups )
  19. Salt ( 1 tbsp or as your taste )
  • Firstly, cut the onion, carrot, zucchini, bell pepper into small pieces.
  • Then, grind the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cardamoms, black peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, cloves, dried red chilies with a grinder.
  • Then, spice powder will be made.
  • Then, mince the garlic cloves.
  • Then, put the sunflower oil, onion, minced garlic cloves, carrot, bell pepper, zucchini, chicken in the pan and cook it for 4 minutes.
  • Then, add the spice powder, tomato puree, ghee, water, salt to the pan and cook it until the chicken, vegetables are cooked perfectly.
