Sahlab is mainly a Turkish drink that is made with milk, dried orchid tuber powder and sugar. It is a popular drink in Turkey. Ottoman Empire kings used to drink this sahlab. Turkish people drink Sahlab in the winter season. It warms up the body for that reason this drink is the best remedy for cough. Sahlab is called Salep in Turkey. Besides, it is not only a popular drink in Turkey but also a popular drink in Middle East countries. Each country makes this drink in a different way. The authentic sahlab is made with cow milk but we provided a Turkish dairy free sahlab recipe that will help vegetarian dieters to make this drink.

Ingredients

  1. Almond milk ( 4 cups )
  2. Pure Sahlab powder/ Salep powder/ Dried orchid tuber powder/ Dried orchid root powder ( 1 and 1/2 tsp )
  3. Sugar ( 2 tsp or as your taste )
  4. Cinnamon powder ( 1/2 tsp )
Methods
  • Firstly, put the almond milk in the pan and cook it for 2 minutes.
  • Then, add the sahlab powder and sugar to the pan and mix it very well with a whisk.
  • Then, cook the almond milk for 14 minutes.
  • Lastly, serve this Turkish sahlab with cinnamon powder.

  1. Coconut milk ( 4 cups )
  2. Rice flour ( 1 tbsp )
  3. Cornstarch powder ( 2 tbsp )
  4. Coconut milk powder ( 1 tbsp )
  5. Peanut ( 50 gram )
  6. Shredded coconut ( 3 tbsp )
  7. Sesame seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  8. Sugar ( 1 tbsp or as your taste )
  9. Cinnamon powder
  10. Pistachio nuts
  11. Raisins
Methods
  • Firstly, roast the sesame seeds.
  • Then, grind the peanuts and shreded coconut with a grinder.
  • Then, coconut peanut powder will be made.
  • Then, put the coconut milk, rice flour, cornstarch powder in the pan and mix it very well with a whisk.
  • Then cook the coconut milk for 3 minutes on low heat.
  • Then, add the coconut milk powder, coconut peanut powder, roasted sesame seeds, sugar to the pan and mix it very well with a whisk.
