Snayniyeh is a middle eastern countries’ dessert that is made with wheat berries, sugar and nuts. It is also called Barbara, Ashura, Ashure. It is a popular and traditional dish in Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Syria. It is cooked on special occasions like- Eid, Christmas and Baby’s first tooth party. So we provided the Lebanese traditional dish snayniyeh recipe that will help to cook Lebanese people –

  1. Wheat berries / Peeled wheat ( 3 cups )
  2. Water ( 11 cups ) ( for cooking )
  3. Rose water ( 6 tbsp )
  4. Sugar ( 1 cup or as your taste )
  5. Walnuts
  6. Peeled almond nuts
  7. Raisins
  • Firstly, soak the wheat berries with the water for 8 hours.
  • Then, cut the nuts into small pieces.
  • Then, put the soaked wheat berries, water in the pan and cook it until the wheat berries are cooked perfectly.
  • Then, add the sugar, rose water to the pan and cook it for 3 minutes.
  • Then, snayniyeh will be made.
  • Lastly, serve this Lebanese snayniyeh with walnut, almond nuts and raisins.

Palestinian Snayniyeh Recipe

The taste of Palestinian snayniyeh is sweet and a little bit spicy. So the recipe of this dish is-

  1. Wheat berries / Peeled wheat ( 3 cups )
  2. Water ( 11 cups ) ( for cooking )
  3. Ground anise seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  4. Ground cinnamon ( 1 tbsp )
  5. Honey ( 1.5 cup or as your taste )
  6. Walnuts
  7. Pistachio nuts
  8. Peeled almond nuts
  9. Raisins
  • Firstly, soak the wheat berries with the water for 10 hours.
  • Then, cut the nuts into small pieces.
  • Then, put the soaked wheat berries, water in the pan and cook it until the wheat berries are cooked perfectly.
  • Then, add the nuts, honey, ground anise seeds, ground cinnamon to the pan and cook it for 7 minutes.
  • Then, snayniyeh will be made.

Jordanian snayniyeh is also a delicious dish. So the recipe of this dish is-

  1. Wheat berries / Peeled wheat ( 3 cups )
  2. Water ( 11 cups ) ( for cooking )
  3. Ground anise seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  4. Ground fennel seeds ( 1 tbsp )
  5. Orange blossom water ( 2 tbsp )
  6. Sugar ( 1 cup or as your taste )
  7. Walnuts
  8. Peeled almond nuts
  9. Cashew nuts
  10. Pine nuts
  11. Raisins
  12. Sugar rainbow sprinkles
  13. Shredded coconut
  • Firstly, soak the wheat berries with the water for 10 hours.
  • Then, put the soaked wheat berries, water, ground fennel seeds, ground anise seeds in the pan and cook it until the wheat berries are cooked perfectly.
  • Then, add the sugar, orange blossom water to the pan and cook it for 3 minutes.

Egyptian snayniyeh is completely different from other countries’ snayniyeh. So the recipe of this dish is-

  1. Wheat berries / Peeled wheat ( 3 cups )
  2. Water ( 10 cups ) ( for cooking )
  3. Milk ( 5 cups )
  4. Vanilla essence ( 1 tbsp )
  5. Cornstarch ( 2 tbsp )
  6. Heavy cream ( 1 cup )
  7. Shredded coconut ( 1 cup )
  8. Sugar ( 1 cup or as your taste )
  9. Pistachio nuts
  10. Raisins
  • Firstly, soak the wheat berries with the water for 10 hours.
  • Then, cut the nuts into small pieces.
  • Then, put the cornstarch, a little bit normal temperature milk in the bowl and mix it very well.
  • Then, keep the cornstarch milk mixture aside.
  • Then, put the soaked wheat berries, water in the pan and cook it until the wheat berries are cooked perfectly.
  • Then, mash the cooked wheat berries with a potato masher.
  • Then, add the milk, sugar, vanilla essence, heavy cream, cornstarch milk mixture, shredded coconut to the pan and cook it for 12 minutes.
  • Then, snayniyeh will be made.
  • Lastly, serve this Egyptian snayniyeh with pistachio nuts, shredded coconut and raisins.

Turkish Snayniyeh Recipe

Turkish snayniyeh is also called Ashure or Noah’s pudding. So the recipe of this dish is-

  1. Wheat berries / Peeled wheat ( 3 cups )
  2. Canned chickpeas ( 1 )
  3. Canned white beans ( 1 )
  4. Rice ( 2 tbsp )
  5. Water ( 12 cups ) ( for cooking )
  6. Cornstarch ( 1 tbsp )
  7. Cloves ( 4 )
  8. Cinnamon stick ( 2 )
  9. Orange zest ( 1 tbsp )
  10. Rose water ( 1 tbsp )
  11. Sugar ( 1.5 cups or as your taste )
  12. Walnuts ( 4 tbsp )
  13. Roasted peanuts ( 3 tbsp )
  14. Roasted hazelnuts ( 3 tbsp )
  15. Dried apricot ( 1/2 cup )
  16. Raisins ( 4 tbsp )
  17. Dried black currants ( 4 tbsp )
  18. Pomegranate seeds
  19. Shredded coconuts
  • Firstly, soak the wheat berries with the water for 10 hours.
  • Then, put the cornstarch, a little bit normal temperature water in the bowl and mix it very well.
  • Then, keep the cornstarch water mixture aside.
  • Then, put the soaked wheat berries, water, rice, cloves, cinnamon sticks in the pan and cook it until the wheat berries are cooked perfectly.
  • Then, add the sugar, canned chickpeas, canned white beans, orange zest, rose water, walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, dried apricots, raisins, dried black currants, cornstarch water mixture to the pan and cook it for 8 minutes.
  • Then, snayniyeh will be made.
  • Lastly, serve this Turkish snayniyeh with shredded coconut and pomegranate seeds.
